Plot Summary

The play begins with a group of four young lovers: Hermia, Lysander, Demetrius, and Helena. Hermia is in love with Lysander, but her father has promised her to Demetrius. Demetrius, however, is in love with Helena. Helena is in love with Demetrius, but he does not return her affections.

The four lovers decide to run away to the forest to escape their troubles. In the forest, they encounter Puck, a mischievous fairy who causes a series of mishaps. Puck uses a love potion to make Demetrius fall in love with Helena. However, the potion accidentally gets on Lysander's eyes, causing him to fall in love with Helena as well.

The four lovers are now in a state of confusion. Hermia is jealous of Helena, and Demetrius is torn between his love for Helena and his promise to Hermia. Puck eventually sets things right, and the four lovers are reunited.
